SLI Performance

The GeForce 7800 GTX 512 features SLI technology and the SLI feature connector for connecting it to another board. The XFX is paired with the reference board at the XFX's clock levels to see what SLI gains can be had in a couple of games titles.

Call of Duty 2

Back to CoD2, this taxing 3D test takes great advantage of a second board to get good framerates where a single board might falter.

Call of Duty 2 SLI

There's nearly 90% more performance to be had in our CoD2 test with IQ-enhancements on, depending on resolution. Call of Duty 2 has an "Optimise for SLI" switch that helps performance in SLI and single card modes. It was on for all SLI and single board testing for this article.

Quake 4

Our Quake4 test is a rough three minute walk-through of the Strogg reconstruction facility, where the Strogg are assembled.

Quake 4 SLI

The XFX is slightly faster than the reference board and SLI adds between 50 and 60% more performance, the game responding well to the presence of an extra board.

Summary

While only two titles were tested, in non-CPU limited scenarios (as much as possible, at least) as expected, the added performance from a 2nd board is almost always significant, resulting in some of the fastest graphics performance currently possible in a consumer PC system.
