Overclocking

We already know that AMD's Radeon HD 7950 is something of an overclocking monster, and despite PowerColor's conservative out-the-box boost, you needn't worry about the PCS+'s ability to go further.

By upping the card's core voltage to 1.15 (up from 1.09), we were able to run at 1,165MHz on the core, with the memory ticking along at an effective 6,060MHz. The card proved perfectly stable at these speeds, and, when compared to AMD's reference design, the numbers represent core and memory speed increases of 46 per cent and 21 per cent, respectively.

For reference's sake, we managed core and memory frequencies of 1,160MHz and 6,060MHz on the XFX card, while Sapphire's Radeon HD 7950 OC managed 1,175MHz on the core and 6,000MHz on memory.

It's hard to resist the overclocking prowess of a Radeon HD 7950. Apply this sort of increase to the PowerColor card and you end up with Radeon HD 7970-beating performance.
