Overclocking
Knowing that Sapphire's Radeon HD 6870 TOXIC ships at a cool 970MHz, we wouldn't expect to see a great deal more wiggle room.
That isn't to say there isn't any, though. Bumping the GPU voltage up to a tentative 1.2V using Sapphire's own Trixx utility, we hit a stable core frequency of 1,005MHz. Going up to 1,010MHz introduced signs of instability, but users willing to feed more power to the core will most probably see even better results.
With the mild overclock in place, we see little real-world performance benefit. Sapphire's done the hard work for you, folks, and few users will feel the need or desire to venture past the already-impressive 970MHz core.
