Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is set to maximum detail and a 30-second section is FRAPS'd whilst we run through the trenches, stumbling upon a bunch of enemy soldiers and letting rip.

Benchmarks

We've highlighted the GeForce GTX 465 and Radeon HD 5850 in darker shades of their company's respective colours, making them easier to compare.

Radeon cards tend to be better than their GeForce counterparts in BC2. The GTX 465 is also 16 per cent slower than the GTX 470 at 1,920x1,200.

Direct comparison

Taking a closer look at GTX 465 vs. Radeon HD 5850 performance, we draw attention to the average and minimum fps for both cards at the three resolutions and then calculate the performance improvement/deficit.

Resolution GeForce GTX 465 1,024MB Radeon HD 5850 1,024MB Percentage better/worse
1,680x1,050 52.51/46 (average/min)
61.37/52
-14.4/-11.5
1,920x1,200 44.02/36
53.27/44.5
-17.4/-19.1
2,560x1,600 27.17/22.5
35.93/30.5
-24.4/-26.2

The GTX 465 is slower at every resolution in BC2, and the gap widens as the resolution is increased. Minimum fps shows that 2,560x1,600 isn't really playable on the latest Fermi-derived card.
