Screenshots
Here are some shots of a DivX film that was encoded at 720 pixels wide the original DVD resolution, due to a bug in the current drivers the playback is rather blocky as seen below.
This screen shot above maybe doesn't show how blocky the picture is but if you zoom in using a an image util, you can see clearly the difference between the GeForce video playback and the Kyro II
Here is close up of Angelina's eye showing at a scale of 2:1, I zoomed in using Paintshop then took a screen grab, both are at the same scale and this time it looks pretty bad for the Kyro II, the blockyness (is that a word ?) is clearly evident
I've updated the Kyro drivers to version the Kyro II I will have to leave it at that for now, maybe this problem will be sorted in the future only time will tell.
Update
As mentioned on the previous page I encoded a DivX film at 704 pixels wide, this is divisible by 32 and gives a whole number, this small difference enables the Kyro II to playback using hardware acceleration which gets rid of the blockyness.
the shots below taken from Charlie's Angels are taken from the DivX film encoded at 704*288 pixels
As you can see the image is very similar on both graphics cards, as they are both using hardware acceleration to playback the film. To further show that it is working much better under the right conditions I zoomed in on the image as I did before.
The blockyness that was evident in the previous close up image has now gone, the images now are fairly similar, compared with the 720 pixel wide films shots shown above they are far superior.
Its a question of waiting for driver updates and possibly updates to the DivX codec to make the Kyro II playback the regular 720 pixel wide film clips.
