Ray Tracing
Ray tracing is fast becoming a key cornerstone of evaluating GPU performance. More titles are taking advantage of its pixel-perfect lighting and the latest GPUs from both Nvidia and AMD support it in their own ways.
What's clear is that Nvidia maintains a comfortable lead in this field through more maturing capabilities and, one can argue, better integration within games.
The graphs only show cards that are capable of hardware-based ray tracing, and looking at a real-world example within Control, we see that rival RTX 3060 Ti is over 40 per cent faster while RTX 3070 offers 65 per cent extra performance that's genuinely telling at the chosen QHD High settings.
Of course, ray tracing performance will vary depending upon title, but if we were purchasing a card for greater futureproofing in this area, it would have to be based on Nvidia's technology.
