Synthetic Benchmarks

ShaderMark 2.1

ShaderMark 2.1 tests shader rates with some simple shaders on simple geometry. It's a nice test of theoretical performance.

The results show the expected delta between GT and GTX, given their respective configurations. Dropping a pixel quad causes performance to drop by an average of 20%. Given the clock deficit and the ~17% reduction in fragment processing units, the drop is nearly spot on. What's interesting is the GT at XFX's 450/525 clocks which only gives 12% of the performance away. Factor in the price of the GT and, well, we'll save that supposition until the conclusion.

Our RightMark test suite shows the GT to give up 15% at reference clocks and less than 10% of performance at XFX's clocks. Our 7800 GTX preview showed that board's performance relative to the top NV40-based SKU. Now you can see the theoretical delta to the top-clocked R480 SKU, which is currently the best ATI have to offer.
