Overclocking

Overclocking

So just how far would our sample overclock to, considering that it shipped with a core running at 475MHz and memory at an effective 980MHz?. Overclocking via TriXX, SAPPHIRE's bundled utility, and setting the fan to maximum speed via the Extreme selection, we were able to get our sample up to 515MHz core and 1060MHz memory (effective, of course) with complete stability. Perhaps cards with R480 cores may run that bit higher; we'll have to wait and see. A note on temperatures. Using SAPPHIRE's Extreme TriXX setting, which pushes the card's fanspeed up to maximum, a load temperature of 68.2c was reported.

Back now to overclocking, Far Cry and DOOM 3 were re-run at 1280x1024 4x AA/8x AF, to see just how the overclocked card compared with the others.

The overclocked SAPPHIRE Hybrid X800 GT 256MB card is no less than 62% faster than a stock-clocked X700 Pro 256MB.

Performance, as always, depends upon application/game used. Even the overclocked X800 GT cannot overcome a GeForce 6600 GT's benchmark here.
