3DMark - Fire Strike

3DMark is the latest version of this hugely-popular synthetic benchmark. Making use of DX11 features such as tessellation, compute shaders and multi-threading, it provides modern-day results and is available as a free download.

We're interested in three things from a performance perspective. The first is how much better this card is than the older GTX 1060 outfitted with 8Gbps memory. Secondly, whether it's faster than the nascent RX 580 GPU from AMD, here presented in the Sapphire Nitro flavour. Lastly, we want to know what kind of performance boost is achieved by going to the next Nvidia GPU up, the GTX 1070.

Answering these questions results in a sub-five per cent lead over the standard GTX 1060 6GB, performance parity with the RX 580 OC, which is cheaper by around Ā£50, while there's roughly one-third more performance on the table with the GTX 1070.
