Gaming benchmarks

Our gaming benchmarks are designed to highlight differences in subsystem performance. That's why we try to steer clear of GPU-bound benchmarks in this section.

Note that the results shown above are all obtained using a reference GeForce 6800 GT (PCIe for the LGA775 score). The performance differences are all down to subsystem power, even at 1024x768. Athlon 64 supremacy is shown by the FX-55 model putting around 5,000 marks into a 3.6GHz (non-EE) Prescott. If you're curious to see how the scores break down, have a look at the Model 4000+'s results here and the FX-55's 25,617 here. Impressive, eh?.

The fastest just got faster. Another demonstration of how clock speed can be a poor indicator of performance.

Our custom low-detail UT2003 benchmark takes in a bot match that's almost exclusively geometry-bound. Even the upcoming 3.46GHz Prescott Extreme Edition will have its work cut-out here.

Most of the action contained within DOOM 3 takes place in enclosed indoor areas. With that being the case, geometry can be a limiting factor. That's why the benchmark, run at 1024x768 High Quality, continues to scale with faster processors. You can never have a fast enough graphics card or processor.
