Well, hello, Skylake. We're using Windows 10 with the latest-available builds of each benchmark. The stressful HandBrake test takes a shine to the Skylake architecture, helped on by a newer version of Quick Sync. There's a 20 per cent uptick in performance at about the same core frequency as Haswell.

PCMark 8 takes the combination of core efficiency and iGPU performance into account. The benchmark is headed by the Broadwell-based Core i7-5775C by dint of its Iris Pro 6200 Graphics.

We can infer that Intel has been very conservative with the HD 530 Graphics that power the GPU side of the new Skylake processor, so while there's a 30 per cent uplift over the HD 4600 in the Core i7-4790K, the Skylake IGP isn't as potent as that found in modern AMD APUs or, for that matter, on the Broadwell C variant.

It would be good to see Intel transplant its best-of-breed IGP into an upcoming version of desktop Skylake.
