Multimedia Performance
Video transcoding from 4K to a tablet-friendly 720p resolution also takes serious CPU oomph. Core i7-5960X is 50 per cent faster than the quickest regular Haswell chip and some 25 per cent nippier than the previous Extreme champ, Core i7-4960X. It's all down to taking advantage of eight cores and 16 threads.
The latest iteration of PCMark tests all manner of system-related performance. We run the Creative benchmark with OpenCL acceleration. Intel is better than AMD, clearly, but there's nothing to be gained from four cores to eight.
Here's a benchmark with a twist. PCMark runs through the various subtests as quickly as possible. The lower the overall time, the better. Core i7-5960X just shades it.
