The Model 3200+ provided us with some excellent gaming numbers. Lots of L2 cache and low latency bandwidth helps, obviously. On the balance of it, the 3200+ is a better gaming CPU than the 3.2GHz Pentium 4, so we expect the 3400+ to be the benchmark leader. Let's find out.

That's how it plays out in 3DMark 2001SE b330. The Model 3400+ does fantastically well in the lobby tests. It's almost 1,500 marks faster than a 3.2GHz P4. A breakdown of 3400+'s scores can be found here. Impressive power.

It's perhaps testament to the CPU's ability that the benchmark appears to be limited by the graphics card. There's little gain from 200MHz speed increase from the 3200+ to the 3400+. Not that we're complaining at the Model 3200+'s benchmark. It's comfortably clear of the fastest P4's. (EE excluded).

More of the same in the cache-dependant Comanche 4. Only the 3.2GHz Extreme Edition, which is about as rare as hen's teeth in the U.K, could have competed here. We had previously benchmarked the 3200+ at 2.2GHz. AMD makes that speed a reality with the newest iteration of the Athlon 64 ClawHammer line.
