Multi-Threaded Tests - Media Processing

Our multi-threaded CPU-bound tests split into two groups: media processing, and 3D and image processing. Media processors first.

MP3 Encoding

High-clocked Netburst has its uses, as shown here, with AM2 slightly faster clock-for-clock compared to 939, and FX-62 posting the fastest AMD numbers to date.

Video Encoding

We see the same with our video encoding test, AM2 faster than 939 at the same clocks and FX-62 adding on another (admittedly slim) chunk on top of that. The XE 965 kicks some ass in this test, though, the DivX encoder happy with HyperThreading and the way Netburst goes about its business. 3.73GHz shouts loud.

As I said in the FX-60 review, "It's generally the done and easy thing to rubbish Intel processors these days, and indeed I'm happy to put the boot in when it's deserved, but its clear that they're well suited to these two tasks when the encoder is favourable", and that applies here too.
