Memory analysis, and light-load tests

All chips use the same Patriot memory. FX-8350 (Piledriver) benchmarks about five per cent higher than FX-8150 (Bulldozer).

A little better than FX-8150 in each test, perceived memory bandwidth and latency is considerably lower/worse than Intel Core i5-3570K's.

Don't read too much into these memory results, however.

Regular readers will know we've been using the PiFast test for more than a decade. The module-based architecture of Piledriver/Bulldozer and inherent weakness in single-threaded tests rears its ugly head here. AMD's very own Phenom II X6 1100T is quicker than FX-8350, and Intel's Core i5-3570K is in a different league altogether.

AMD needs a new architecture if it's to get anywhere close to Intel's current single-threaded performance, going by our results.
