Power consumption

Intel has improved the platform-wide power-draw characteristics of X79/LGA2011 when compared with last-gen X58/LGA1366, but there's no getting around the fact that the P67/LGA1155 is the better combination in this regard. Bored of platform nomenclature yet?

Recall the discussion on the different die used on the Core i7-3820 vs. the 3960X/3930K? It's indirectly validated by the under-load power numbers that are 30W lower than the six-core duo's.

Intel could launch this reviewed chip with a 95W TDP, we reckon, but there's little need to do so when marketing for the enthusiast segment.
