Three further multi-threaded tests show that the 970 is just a few per cent slower than 980X. The reason that it's so close is down to just how similar the chips are - ostensibly separated by a single multiplier. AMD's finest does well to come in a distant third.
More cores do practically nothing in our solitary gaming test that's run at real-world settings.
