Bandwidth, latency, and HEXUS.PiFast

The Phenom IIs, running DDR2-1,066MHz memory, pull out a comfortable lead over the two Intel Core 2 Quads and the Phenom 9950 BE, which is the only processor in the line-up to use DDR2-800 RAM.

Intel's tri-channel memory-controller on the Core i7 pays massive bandwidth dividends, according to Sandra, producing almost 20GB/s.

Latency, too, is better on the new Phenoms, but not quite as good as the Intel trio.

Bringing it together in the number-crunching HEXUS.PiFast test, we see that sheer clock-speed elevates the Phenom II 940 above the price-comparable Core 2 Quad Q9300. It's still some way shy of the Core i7 920, however.
