Memory Tests
You may recall that Intel enables DDR4-3200 speeds across the entire 11th Gen Core range. On anything other than a Core i9, however, it recommends motherboards run chips at what is known as Gear 2, where the memory controller is operating at half the speed as the RAM. This is exactly how we ran the chip for these tests.
This chip's IMC can run memory in synchronous Gear 1 mode, but the only meaningful difference in scores is with respect to latency, which drops from the observed 59.1ns to 52.4ns in Gear 1. Is it actually better to run DDR4-2933 at Gear 1 for the Core i5? Interesting question. Our brief testing into just this shows no major differences.
