Overclocking Tests

We overclock by raising the multiplier without increasing the voltage. Both chips managed the same speed, an all-core 4.4GHz.

Running at the same speed is instructive in appreciating how the two models react to frequency. In the Cinebench test there's nothing in it. The test isn't reliant on differences in caching structure.

There is a slight increase in performance for the 3300X when running at the same speed. Still, most would argue that it's not large enough to be noticeable.

Ah, but some games are heavily optimised for latency and caching. We ran the numbers multiple times just to be sure. Remember, what you're looking at is the 3300X and 3100 running at the same frequency, yet the former is substantially faster. The same is true, albeit to a lesser degree, in Far Cry: New Dawn and Civilization VI: Gathering Storm.
