Memory benchmarks and single-threaded performance
The benchmark where the K8 architecture has always done exceedingly well in, memory-bandwidth performance is simply excellent on the Athlon 64 X2, as evaluated by SiSoft's SANDRA. What's just as interesting to note is the increased performance in the Penryn core, up around 7 per cent on the equivalent Kentsfield processor.
Memory-access latency, though, is pretty much identical across a broad range of processors.
Single-threaded performance, as evinced by HEXUS.Pifast, is marginally faster on the new Penryn, but it's not worth writing home about.
