System Setup

As mentioned earlier, EPoX came through with a special motherboard for testing. A variant of their v1.1 Springdale-PE based 4PDA2+, complete with factory voltage modification to give more than the measly 1.6V (1.52V real load) max adjust in the shipping BIOS. As it happens, I didn't get to use it properly, but many thanks to EPoX for giving the helping hand incase I did.

With only one or two Extreme Edition Pentium 4's doing the rounds in the UK at the moment, slapping it under the VapoChill was always going to be a gamble, disasters do happen. But Asetek wanted a good test, so it would have been rude not to.

With the same Corsair XMS3200LL TwinX from the XP3200+ runs and the same ASUS V9950 FX5900 Ultra too, here's the entire list of components used in testing.

  • Asetek VapoChill eXtreme Edition
  • Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz Extreme Edition (16 x 200, 512KB L2, 2048KB L3)
  • EPoX EP-4PDA2+ Springdale-PE Socket 478 Motherboard
  • Corsair XMS3200LL TwinX 512MB Memory Kit
  • Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 80GB
  • ASUS V9950 GeForceFX 5900 Ultra 256MB
  • Enermax 431W ATX PSU
As for software, here's the test list.
  • Windows XP Professional w/SP1
  • NVIDIA Detonator XP 45.23
  • Intel Chipset Driver 5.00.1012
  • DirectX 9.0a Runtime
  • 3DMark 2001SE v330
  • Quake3 v1.30 (Four demo)
  • Aquamark 3
  • HEXUS Pifast
  • HEXUS SETI
  • RealStorm Raytracer
  • LAME 3.92MMX w/Razor f.e
  • Unreal Tournament 2003 (HEXUS Low Detail Botmatch)

XE + EE + PE = WHEEEEEE! ? We'll soon see.
