Functionality

First of all we’ll look at the functionality of these devices.
  • 3 Channel Aluminium Fan Controller.
  • Each Channel Supports up to 18 watts.
  • Control Voltage from 0V to 12V.
  • Manually adjust from FULL SPEED to OFF.
  • Great for high CFM fans.
  • Built in dual CCFL inverter with light control.
  • Adjust to either ON, OFF, or SOUND ACTIVATED.
  • Stylish Aluminium Housing with ultra bright LED back lights.
  • NXP-301 fits into a standard 5.25” drive bay.
  • NXP-305 fits into a standard 3.5” drive bay.
So basically these fan and light controllers can control up to 3 fans and 2 cold cathode tubes that can be controlled for sound detection.

The controller’s have 3 channels; each channel can control a fan up to 18watts. A standard 80mm LED case fan which spins at around 2500rpm with an output of 32cfm requires around 1.6watts. A 120mm LED fans require around 4.8watts. As you can see 18watt’s is sufficient enough, to power some very powerful fans, but it is recommended that you keep to 1 fan per channel. Since the fan controller is capable of controlling the voltage from 0V to 12V it is very important that you don’t use it on CPU fans, thermal fans or speed adjustable fans. These important details are included within the user manual.

The controller also has a built in dual CCFL inverter with light control. Included in the contents of this kit are 2 x 30cm blue cold cathode tubes. These are plugged directly into the fan controller and give off an amazing blue glow. These are ideal for people with computer cases with windows. There are 3 settings for the cold cathodes. On, Off and Sound Activated. When in the sound activated mode the cathodes will pulse on and off depending upon sound activity within the room. I personally think this is a great feature but I’m so pleased it has the other options to turn off the sound activation. When I received this product I immediately installed it into my PC. Later that night I was playing some Counter-Strike and was still tinkering with the sound activation for the cold cathodes, I was fascinated with it. After a few hours my eye sight started to fade. It was either lack of sleep, or the sight of flashing cold cathodes out of the corner of my eye while I tried to concentrate on playing the game. At this point I decided it was time to turn them off and go to bed.
