XDream SE

The fan omits the hologram in favour of a copper look.

The SE uses the same excellent clip found on the standard XDream. This time, though, the noticeable difference is that the SE uses an all-copper bottom. Copper is a better heat conductor than aluminium but costs more to produce in volume. That's why we see only a copper insert on the standard XDream but an entire heatsink on the supposedly better-performing all-copper version. Using the accepted method of packing a large number of fins to increase the available surface area, the XDream SE should be a solid performer.

The fan and grill come away with the removal of four screws. A simple design lies underneath.

The SE version arrives with a label to protect the copper from blemishes. You also receive a sachet of thermal goo to act as the conduit between CPU and heatsink.

Both the XDream and XDream SE share the same fan. They're just coloured differently. The SE's attached rheobus, pictured below, gives us a lower setting of ~ 2,000 RPM vs. the 2,750 RPM minimum of the XDream.

You're also given a thimble that fixes over the rheobus' switch. It keeps up the stylish theme.

You get the topmost PCI slot cover on both the XDream models, but the 3.5" aluminium bay is only available on the SE version. It should fit in well with Cooler Master's aluminium cases.

Reasonably shiny.
