Cooler Master Cool Drive DCD 4002

3. Screw on the front
4. Plug in the Power Supply
5. Screw the case back together and your done

This is deigned For maximum system reliability, today's high performance hard disk drives demand a high performance thermal solution to help them dissipate the generated heat. Most hard disk drive mounting frames have plastic casing with poor heat transfer properties and noisy sound.

Features
- Fits in standard 3.5" drive, 1" height of HARD DRIVE for installation in a 5.25 bay
- Quiet fan
- Removable filter
- Application IDE and SCSI
- Lowers HARD DRIVE noise
- Interchangeable Filter

This drive has a grey panel on the front with a filter behind it to stop dust from getting in to the system, there is a fan located here, this blows air over the hard drive which is mounted in the large metal bracket, this is a sealed unit with a large metal case with a large heat sink style top. there is one flaw in this idea, if it gets too hot or the fan stops to work then the unit will over heat and maybe damage the media.

Cool drive installed with the panel present and then without.

Testing
I again installed this on the Viking 2, but when I turned on my pc it was silent, I was VERY impressed, I ran the HARD DRIVE doing a defrag and scan disk of windows then in to 4GBs roughly of mp3s being copied across, It performed brilliantly here are the results:- My tests showed an excellent cooling performance. Being the final cooling I tested it with my Viking LVD drive, and the temperature never exceeded 30°C.

Pros
-
HD surface temps down
- HD lifespan increased
- Looks
- Chunky
- Cheap

Cons
-
Need's a spare 5¼ Drive Bay
