One of the main reasons people want a fan controller is to enable them to slow down their case fans. By slowing the fans down, reduces the noise and airflow, but reducing airflow will increase temperature inside your case.

The cables which come with the Vantec controller is enough to power 2 x 4 pin fans (with a pass through cable for more 4 pin fans) and 2 x 3 pin fans. The problem with this is most of my fans within my case are 3pin, so I can only power 2 of my fans with the cables supplied. This problem is easily overcome by making 2 additional 3 pin fan leads. It is possible to plug 3 pin fans straight into the fan controller without the use of the cables supplied, but you still come across the problem that the fan controller is designed to fit into a 5¼ inch bay and most of your case fans won't reach the back of the controller.
