Internals – Building the system

We're going to take you through a step-by-step build of the SG-03. Doing that from bare chassis to fully-built took us around 35 minutes – longer than we'd have hoped but that's mainly down to the small form-factor. Things inside can get tight, very tight, and if you've got big hands you could be in trouble!

Planning is everything with the SG-03, especially where the PSU connections and other cabling go. So, if you buy one, don't just dive in, think about things first, it'll make the build a whole lot easier.

First up we have in place a lone optical drive and a single hard drive.

Next to go in is the motherboard, which is a tight fit. There were a few 'oohs and aahs' as the sound of scraping PCB reached our sensitive ears. The motherboard does go in – so just be patient.

The Intel board we were using had an additional line of stand off holes intended for securing it to the case – but the case had no case holes for them. This is something that SilverStone needs to have a fresh think about, in our view.

At this point we were quite surprised just how empty the interior still looked – with almost half the components already in place.

Next, we set about fitting the graphics card and the PSU and also making sure that the front 120mm fan was connected to a Molex power input and the cables running from the front ports were put onto the appropriate motherboard headers.
