External Appearance I

The external appearance of the PC37 is unique as the case is designed for people who want to have maximum usage of the drive bays but still remain small in size. I can’t think of another case that has 5 x 5¼ inch drive bays yet only measures 365mm high. Just so you understand just how smaller this case is, a Cooler Master 201B stands at 452 mm high.

Since this case has a large number of 5¼ inch drive bays it has sacrificed the amount of 3½ inch drive bays. The case only has 3 x 3½ inch drive bays of which 1 drive bay is available for use with a floppy disk drive or similar. Many people these days don’t use floppy disk drives so they often use this space for a memory card reader or LCD temperature sensor. Lian Li have recently introduced there new style CD and floppy drive bezels.

These are a great improvement over there old style “stick-on” bezels. Many UK retailers have just started selling these within the past few weeks. Previously people have had to either spray or “stealth” there beige CD drives. With a CD bezel of this quality and appearance, it is certainly going to be popular. Not only is it quick and easy to install your CD drive with the bezel, but it won’t void the warranty of your CD/DVD drive. Installing a CD drive within the Lian Li PC37 using the CD bezel that is provided is just the same as any other case, although you need to make sure the drive sits all the way forward so it makes contact with the button on the CD bezel. I used a TDK 16/10/40x CD writer and found no problems at all, but if your CD drive has 2 buttons then this may cause problems. Operation of the drive seemed rather noisy since the drive tray hits against the aluminium flap when ejecting and loading the CD drive. I found that if I removed the plastic bezel on the CD tray it was a lot quieter and smoother. As I mentioned before, the CD bezel is very good quality, and a great match with the other blank bezels within the case by carrying on the brushed aluminium look. One thing I don’t particularly like is the plastic button on the bezel. This certainly would have been nicer if it was aluminium but I suppose it does follow a trend with the other plastic buttons on the Lian Li (Power/Reset).

Many people I have spoken to about this CD bezel, have asked if it is possible to install it into a Cooler Master case. Sadly the answer is no, unless you want to do some modifications to it.
