I'm a PC. Disguised as a Mac.
Sony has today blurred the line between the PC and the Mac with the launch of its VAIO JS1 all-in-one PC.
The desktop system, pictured below, could easily be mistaken for an Apple iMac but it's very much a PC affair. It features a 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 3GB of RAM, integrated Intel GMA X4500 graphics, a 500GB hard-disk drive and Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system.
All that's housed in the same shell as the 1680x1050 20.1in screen, and there's a choice of DVD or Blu-ray optical drives. A more than adequate specification for most users.
Even many of the hardened PC enthusiasts have become tired of the monstrous chassis that continue to head our way. A touch of the sexiness on offer from Apple is just what the doctor ordered, and Sony appears to have delivered.
Microsoft's "I'm a PC" campaign might be trying to change the public perception of the Windows-based computer. But sexy-looking systems such as the VAIO JS1 do a much better job of that, we feel.
There's no word on pricing, but we get the impression we'll be paying iMac-like prices. Additional images on page two.
