The news
Nokia yesterday announced that owners of the N800 Internet Tablet phone can use it to access the media on their broadband-connected home computers by installing Orb Networks' MyCasting media-streaming software on their PCs.
Fact is, of course, the Orb software is available to anyone and lets owners of broadband-connected PCs get at their media whatever hardware they're using to connect remotely to the net at a decent-speed.
As for the N800, Orb's media-serving software, available as a free download (20.8MByte), let's owners enjoy their videos, photos, music and TV programmes wherever they have a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth phone connection.
The N800 itself has a built-in browser and media player so requires no additional software installation to use Orb.
As for the Nokia's browser, this, together with the MyCasting app let you set up remote TV recordings on tuner-equipped PCs, for viewing on the N800 or on the PC - though, again, the same is true for other remote-connecting web browsing.
