More than a gadget

The static noteboard function is just one aspect of Wayve, however. The product itself is not the hardware - that's just something they've made in order to be able to showcase the service. Wayve is, in fact, a subscription based cloud service that facilitates messaging between the device and other mobile devices.

The idea seems to be that Junior might be late home after school and can quickly ping the device so that everyone in the household can be made aware of this. Alternatively a photo could be taken using the built in camera and sent to an estranged or just overworked parent to keep them abreast of domestic milestones.

In short, Microsoft and the company that's developing Wayve - The Technology Partnership (TTP) - are hoping it will become the communications hub of the home. Wayve's unique selling point seems to be its simplicity, with its intended users being as young as four years old.

Here's a photo taken of me at the Microsoft event using the Wayve device. Below it is a message sent to my phone by Simon Lewis of Wayve (who also makes an appearance on the left hand side of the photo) from his Wayve device.
