Six monitors better than one

If you're looking for a great gift idea for a multi-tasking loved one, you could do worse than give them the gift of DisplayLink wired and wireless USB virtual graphics, a setup which allows the ever impatient to hook up to six displays to one machine.

The Palo Alto, Calif. based firm recently managed to score itself some $8 million in investment cash as well as hire a new CEO, Craig Ensley, a veritable dinosaur of the chip world, having previously served as president and COO of Peregrine Semiconductor.

DisplayLink lets users simply plug a monitor into the provided adaptor, whilst hooking up another monitor to the computer - with the 'virtual' display adapter handily slotting into the USB port. Users can then start transmitting video and display data through the USB.

This is all achieved by having a chip and some software which automatically configures the system to use multiple monitors - currently anything from two to six.

Now, for busy business bods this is ideal, but if you're a gamer thinking of hooking up his very own Eyefinity-like device to play Crysis in the living room, you're out of luck we're afraid.
