Mike ‘Chief Itanium Cheerleader’ Fister did his usual discussion with the Itanium CPU.

Today there were no new Itanium launches, however we saw a lot of partners discussing the Intel platform.

Toyota believe that they can claim the future success of the F1 car will be dependant on the Itanium 2 CPU. However, we all know how well they did....

Intel are working on new technologies in the form of oxton – which helps to modulate the power, on the fly products. They have Pellston which helps to improve cache reliability. The Dual core, Multi Thread, and 24MB Cache, The power management will be demand based switching with automatic power consumption control.

We will see a new Bayshore platform with PCI-Express, DDR2, and faster system bus. We will see the evolving the Xeon line in form of the 64 bit. With a change to the memory addressing to 64bit pointers and 64bit registers. This CPU will have more registers in the form of 8-SSE, and 8-Gen Purpose. With double precision (64bit) integer support, and Flat Virtual address Space.

They are going to put legacy support in for 32/32, with 64/32 compatibility and true 64bit – 64/64.
