The news

Fujitsu is one of the first companies to announce that it is taking advantage of the global battery-recall offer from Sony to makers of notebook PCs (see this HEXUS.lifestyle headline, Sony gets pro-active with global laptop-battery recall). However, it says that it is "not aware of any instances of battery pack problems involving Fujitsu notebook PCs similar to those that have been announced by Dell and Apple Computer".

The Japanese firm did, though, carry out a recall in June 2005 for around 250,000 Sony-sourced batteries where there was a risk of fire. The company gives no indication of the number of batteries it's expecting to replace this time round nor details of how the recall is going to be handled (consultations with Sony are still on-going) but does now list the notebook models that will be covered.

Outside of Japan, the affected notebooks (all Lifebook models) are the:

C1320, C1320D, P1510, P1510D, P7120, P7120D, S7020, S7020D, S7025 and S7025D.

Within Japan, the affected notebooks (all FMV or FMV-BIBLO LOOX models) are the:

FMV-BIBLO LOOX P70R, P70S, T50M, T50R, T50RN, T50S, T50SN, T70M, T70M/T, T70MN, T70R, T70R/T, T70RN, T70S, T70S/V, T70SN and FMV-P8210
