The news
Okay, it's not a wristwatch phone, but Sony Ericsson's MBW-100 looks like it could be the next best thing - a watch that interacts with your Bluetooth mobile phone and controls various functions.
The Bluetooth Watch MBW-100 - designed in collaboration with fashion-watch outfit Fossil - is said to provide discreet call handling. It can show SMS/MMS message alerts and caller IDs and let you reject or mute calls.
It's also reckoned to give control of a phone's music player (play, pause, next track); provide a battery indicator and out-of-range warning; and easily connect to compatible phones thanks to Sony Ericsson's Auto pairing technology.
The list of fully-compatible phones - all Sony Ericsson, of course - takes in the K610, K610i, K618, K790, K800, V630, W710, W850, Z610 and Z710.
Finish is silver-look stainless steel, though a black limited-edition variant is also promised, and the watch glass is mineral crystal that's said to be scratch-resistant and carry an anti-glare coating. Weight is a chunky 187.5g (6.61oz) and the watch is reckoned to be water-resistant to 30m.
A quartz movement provides "exact" time-keeping that's shown on mechanical hands. However the watch can also pick up the time from the phone and show it digitally on its OLED display.
No word yet, though, on pricing - and we wouldn't even dare hazard a guess.
