Born Overclocker
MSI is known to be cooking up a Radeon HD 5870 Lightning Edition graphics card, and though details remain few and far between, an anonymous source has dropped a bevy pictures in our inbox providing a detailed look at the card's PCB.
In keeping with MSI's Lightning range, the 5870 is uniquely tailored to meet the demands of the overclocking crowd and features a taller-than-reference PCB - presumably to make room for the massive 12-phase PWM.
With a further three voltage regulators for the 1GB of GDDR5 memory, overclockers will want to be able to supply sufficient juice, and MSI has stepped up the task by equipping the card with a duo of eight-pin PCIe power connectors.
We're presuming the card will be pre-overclocked, but the enthusiasts will be looking to beat records with this one. If that sounds like you, what will also be of interest are V-Check points that allow you to check GPU and memory voltage, and a series of eight LEDs on the rear of the card. We expect the final retail product to appear with MSI's Twin Frozr II dual-fan cooling system attached, but there's no word on pricing or availability yet.
