Quiet servers in big case
Acoustic Solutions
Taking up one corner of the QuietPC stand was Acousti Products.Looking suitably busy, what's Derek Oliver, Acousti Products' service and support manager, standing next to?
It's an AcoustiRACK, that's what. Designed to reduce the perceived noise from 19-inch-wide server and rack-mounted equipment (including blade server chassis) with clever design, the patent-pending, self-ventilating cabinet reduces the Sound Power Level (SPL) by up to 90%. It's extremely useful in instances when servers have to be located in rooms where employees work, and the 42U chassis is capable of dissipating 3kWs of heat.
Derek also informed us that a smaller, under-the-table version is being launched later this year. Perfect for environments where noise is an issue, recording studios or your own study, for example, the proposed cabinet will still allow you to run a high-end system but in near silence.
Pressing him further, Derek revealed that a newer model was in the pipeline that incorporated algorithm-based noise-cancellation technology; basically noise-cancellation without having to configure microphones for the room. Sound funky, doesn't it? We'll wait and see what comes of it.
