Jumping the gun
Technology companies are locked into a perpetual race to be first to market with the latest innovation and a big reason for this is the publicity that comes with that achievement.
One recent example of this is the USB Flash drive market, where capacities double on a regular basis and being the first to reach a new threshold brings kudos to the company managing the feat.
Kingston announced it was "first to market" with a 128GB drive earlier this week, followed, as we predicted, by Patriot yesterday. "Patriot is elated to bring the consumer a product that is unprecedented in the market," said Patriot product manager, Meng Jay, in the press release, which claimed the product is the only one on the market today.
We even heard from a company called Edge Tech, which claimed it would have a 128GB Flash drive on offer at significantly lower price then Kingston's by the end of July.
The problem with the Kingston and Patriot claims is that we can't find the products anywhere.
