Introduction
It seems the roll out of AMD's Leo platform is in full swing. Following this morning's introduction of the key ingredient - hexa-core Phenom II X6 processors - AMD has also expanded its range of accompanying 800-series chipsets to include the 890FX, 890GX and 880G.
The latter, AMD's mid-range option, hasn't been under the spotlight but might catch the eye of the budget-conscious consumer.
Arriving as the successor to the well-received 785G, the IGP-equipped 880G can be seen as 890GX without some of the frills. Paired with either an SB850 or SB710 southbridge, it hopes to serve consumers at under the £100 mark.
We'll have a full review coming soon, but to get this party started, we're bringing you an exclusive preview of one of the first 880G boards from MSI; the 880GMA-E45.
Lining up as part of the Taiwanese manufacturer's Entertainment Series range, the board opts to take the 880G+SB850 route and crams a useful array of features into a micro-ATX (244mm²) form factor.
Support for hexa-core CPUs, DDR3 memory, SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0 makes it an interesting prospect, but what does 880G's IGP have in store?
