Gears of War 4 and Metro Exodus

The latest installment in the Gears of War series delivers heart-stopping action and the developers at The Coalition deserve genuine credit for proving that high-profile ports can be every bit as stunning as their console counterparts, if not more so.

It's also evident that WQHD60 is an easily achievable target for both cards, and the Radeon VII continues to put up a good showing.

The third installment in the Metro video game series based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's novels, Exodus blends deadly combat and stealth with exploration and survival horror in one of the most immersive game worlds ever created. A GPU-heavy, blockbuster of a game.

Yet there are a few games that are, almost deliberately, ever so difficult to run smoothly. The Metro series is one of them, and the latest iteration, Exodus, released tomorrow, is no exception. Run at the ultra preset, both GPUs suffer, though Nvidia maintains a near-10 per cent lead. You can largely ignore the minimum framerate because it only drops to the quoted figure for a microsecond.

Being fair, Nvidia is implementing performance-enhancing DLSS support from day one, and I'll cover just how good the technology is in a separate piece.
