In Summary
It's abundantly clear, even from your first few races, that Fatal Inertia's strengths will lie in the multiplayer mode and the unpredictability of those races against human opposition rather than the lacklustre and unrewarding gameplay demonstrated in the career mode. There are a number of game modes online with all out speed races, where weapon pads are converted to rocket boosts to combat based games, where elimination will be the aim of the game.Graphically, Fatal Inertia looks pretty good. There are some nice effects, such as when you scrape against a rock and see sparks flying from your aircraft or you skim across the surface of the water and see the spray coming up behind you, but as far as excitement goes, there's not too much to get the juices flowing.
Fatal Inertia has a short learning curve, which may appeal to those seeking a pick up and play title. Anyone hoping for a deep and challenging racer will be disappointed, but if the game gathers a decent community online the multiplayer modes could possibly make up for the shortcomings of the single player campaign.
Pros
Looks good
Some great weapons
Accessible
Cons
Too slow
Not enough variety in the tracks
Not very challenging
What prevents Fatal Inertia from being a below average racer is its range of entertaining weapons and multiplayer mode, but even then it's very average.
