15 outrageous and totally unique Titans

Each ‘Titan’ has a number of unique attacks. For example: A Magmadon has a range of lava-related attacks, whereas a Ratcicle can create large iceballs to slam on the ground. There’s a wide range of interesting monsters to jack, all of which boast some visually impressive moves.

The Titan’s skills are often needed in order to progress to the next level, where you might jump on the back of a Stench (a skunk/bird hydrid) and use their projectile skills in order to shoot a target which will unlock a doorway. Due the range of impressive creatures and their equally gratifying combat skills, these Titan fight sequences can be extremely entertaining as you hop from one Titan to the next using their array of powers.

Aside from the ‘Titan’ fights, Crash of the Titans is fairly repetitive. You’ll fight the respawning minions again and again and they’ll never really pose much of a challenge. You’ll swing or jump across a few obstacles, smash through dozens of crates picking up Mojo in order to gain more lives, but ultimately you’ll probably just be looked forward to the moment where you can ride on the backs of the next new group of ‘Titans’.

As far as capturing the old-school feel of the Bandicoot game goes, Crash Of the Titans doesn’t quite make the grade. The story is solid enough and there’s plenty of tongue-in-cheek humour and smart-alec one-liners from Crash, but the game lacks variety and originality in the levels. However, despite the simplicity of combat, Crash of the Titan does still have some fun moments, thanks in the main part to the introduction of the ‘Titans’ and their fine array of moves.

Crash of the Titans isn’t just another Crash title and it’s clear to see that Radical have tried hard in a number of areas to rejuvenate the franchise with some new ideas, such as the new jacking mechanic, but sadly it doesn’t quite impress enough to deserve the same critical success as Naughty Dog’s original. It's worth a look and you'll have a relatively good time leaping around some multi-coloured locations, but after a weekend of playing you'll probably have had your fill.

Pros
Jacking mechanic is excellent
Nice looking environments

Cons
Combat is too simplistic
Repetitive minion fights
Rigid camera

Worth a look for kids and Crash fans. The Titans are great, but it’s certainly not the best Crash Bandicoot title by a long stretch.
