The Rabbids’ First Comedy-AdventurWhat is Rabbids Go Home?
As the fourth game in Ubisoft’s Rayman Raving Rabbids series, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Rabbids Go Home is another set of wacky mini-games designed to take advantage of the Wii-mote’s motion-sensing functionality. Refreshingly though, the developer has taken the series in a whole new direction in this outing with a surreal comedy adventure/platformer that sees the mischievous rabbids on a rather bizarre quest to reach the moon.
The story goes that the rabbids have decided that they’d like to escape the hustle and bustle of Earth and head for the quiet sanctuary of the moon, but the only plan they have for getting there involves collecting as much stuff as they can, piling it sky-high and walking there. Inevitably that involves plenty of wacky humour and mayhem along the way as the rabbids grab a shopping trolley and scour various environments, from supermarkets to airports, on the hunt for as much stuff as they can possibly carry to build their giant walkway.
Gameplay involves controlling two raving rabbids and steering their shopping cart as you speedily move around crowded environments hurtling down stairs and boosting off ramps as you shovel objects into your trolley to add to your pile at the end of each level. Flicking the Wii-mote activates the yell attack and with a high-pitched scream your rabbid can smash open lockers, stun any enemies that get in his way, or even blast the clothes of humans. Of course, it wouldn’t be a raving rabbids game without plenty of madcap humour and aside from wacky animations you also get to cosmetically customise your rabbid in a variety of surreal ways, for example, by giving him eyes that protrude out of his sockets.
An offline co-op mode gives players the opportunity during certain sections of the game to either steer or attack, whereas collectibles, large items and shopping trolley upgrades, such as a jet ski, give you a good reason to stray off the beaten track in search of objects that will aid you in your adventure.
