The perfect medium for table tennis?
Rockstar, traditionally the home of games that drew misinformed outrage from Daily Mail readers, took the Xbox 360 by storm with their surprise hit, Table Tennis last year. Compared to the usual Rockstar titles with their heavy emphasis on violence, (which we all know affects house prices in Tunbridge Wells), Table Tennis was a complete departure from the norm and not only that, it was a damn fine game too.You can read what Steven thought of it in his Xbox 360 Table Tennis review but one thing that bugged me right from the games launch was why it wasn’t out on the Wii too. At that time we had Wii Tennis, which, although being massive fun and thoroughly playable, was really just a case of thrashing the Wii Remote back and forth. Ok, so it was a bit more complex than that, but having seen the depth of Table Tennis on the Xbox 360 it seemed a bit of a no-brainer to bring Table Tennis to the Wii where that remote thrashing could really be put to good use.
So now that Rockstar have launched Table Tennis on the Wii I’m a happy bunny. I can stand in my living room, thrash my Wii remote around like a pillock and pretend that I’m not as unfit as I am whilst enjoying all the goodness of Rockstar’s Table Tennis on my Wii… but how does this version hold up to the Xbox 360 version? Is it as good? Is it better because of the Wii remote?
