A space non-adventure

The 1982 children's book Jumanji, written by Chris Van Allsburg, was a magical adventure where children played a magic board game and found themselves thrust into a world of jungle-themed peril. The plot was original and the film, probably thanks to the manic talents of Robin Williams, did well at the box office.

Zuthura is a new adventure from the World Of Jumanji and follows a similar theme to the classic story. A board game wreaks havoc on two unsuspecting children who find themselves trapped in space, they’ll need to battle their way through various trials and tribulations in order to secure a safe passage back to Earth.

Zathura begins with the introduction of two young brothers, Walter and Danny. The boys have been left home-alone, much to the dismay of the younger brother Danny, who is constantly taunted by his older sibling – must be his Kevin Keegan style haircut.

Walter decides to play a nasty trick on his brother by locking him in the basement. While locked in the basement, Danny discovers an old board game – Zathura: A Space Adventure. After escaping from the confines of the crate-ridden basement (what the hell are in those crates?), Danny examines the game in the comfort of the living room. On examining one of the cards in the game, Danny isn’t quite old enough to read the writing, he passes the card to his older brother who reads out the following message, “Meteor Shower, Take Evasive Action’. At this point meteors come crashing down into the living room and you’ll need to take immediate action by reaching the safety zone of the fireplace.

You've unlocked a portal into another World in Space, and this is where you'll stay until you find a way back.
