New dimension to the gameplay

The fast rope function adds a new dimension to the gameplay and whilst defending the briefcase on the Calypso Casino level, two attackers came sliding down in perfect unison from adjacent balconies onto the casino floor. The animation and visual effect, not to mention the increased amount of tactical gameplay that this fast rope function throws into the equation, is going to make for some superbly orchestrated manoeuvres.

Remember those annoying people who used to camp in the office on the Warehouse map in Rainbow 6: Black Arrow, well they’re now going to have to be on their toes! Because it’s extremely possibly that whilst you’re sitting there with your C4 planted by a closed door waiting for someone to walk in the room, the windows could explode at any moment and two balaclava-clad counter-terrorists could come flying into the room and take you surprise. Both the rappelling and fast rope functions work and animate extremely well and give you far more tactical options than ever before.

On Calypso Casino, our attackers,(we’re sure they’ve played this game before) were dropping down from above onto the main casino floor using the fast rope function, sniping from the upper floors and bombarding the vicinity around the briefcase with flash bangs, smoke and grenades.

Calypso Casino will be a superb multiplayer level. The map is big, but the action focuses around the area of the objective so if you work as a team you can try and block off as many routes as possible. The use of these new functions is going to make for some superb ‘smash and grab’ scenarios. For example, if you play with a team who communicates well you could attack the briefcase by all dropping down from above at exactly the same time. Use two of the players to try and clear the area, one to provide cover fire and the other person to pick up the briefcase as you cover him on the way back to the extraction point. The amount of scenarios available and the amount of routes to the objective means that the options are endless and individuals and clans will soon be working out their own effective ways of breaking the defence.

Covering in multiplayer works extremely well and there’s plenty of opportunities to use it. Pressing the left trigger you’ll adopt the stance and the camera will switch to third person mode, tweak the thumbstick slightly to the left or right and you’ll peer around the object as you back into the first person perspective. Ultimately this gives you added cover and a clear view of the area ahead, but you’ll have to make sure off that someone is covering your back.
