Motorstorm meets FallOut 3
Set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland devastated by the impact of an asteroid blast, iD Software’s latest venture, RAGE, is a hybrid of the first person shooter and racing genres that draws its inspiration from both FallOut 3 and MotorStorm.Penned, among others, by Doom 3 writer, Matthew J Costello, the storyline focuses on your survival five years after the catastrophic event. Arks were built underground by the authorities to house survivors and those skilled enough to help rebuild the world outside once the after effects of the disaster settle, but due to reasons currently unknown, your Ark malfunctions and you’re the only survivor left underground.
You head to the surface in search for human contact, but get more than you bargained for when you come face to face with crazed mutants affected by the radiation. Though iD Software has been fairly tight-lipped on the gameplay thus far, we do know that RAGE fuses first person shooter gameplay with buggy racing while throwing in some RPG elements.
You’ll have access to a range of standard first person shooter weaponry, from pistols to assault rifles, but there’s also some high-tech weaponry including a crossbow that fires electrical bolts and an RC Car that you can control and detonate. As well as an inventory system and the ability to upgrade weapons, the buggy racing in RAGE will also feature an upgrade system.
RAGE looks incredible. Built entirely on the company's latest proprietary engine,id Tech 5, it features an open-world environment full of sandy plains and dominate stone structures with pathways that lead to outposts and towns bathed in a steampunk aesthetic.
