Easy to use combat for taking out those corsairs

The action is often frantic, especially when tackling larger groups of enemies. As you unleash your spells or attack the enemy they’ll also be fighting back with their own range of spells. You can view which spells the enemy has cast (by hovering over the icon at the top of the screen) and attempt to counteract them with your own spell. For example, if the creature has cast has spell that affects your health, you could then cast an increase health spell to bring it back up. The intense combat makes for a superb visual experience and ensures that you’ll need to keep an eye on the action in order to make the right choices with your own attacks. You’re not locked into a battle and are free to move to a safer position should your life be in jeopardy meaning that you can flank opponents or gain an advantage by taking to the high ground.

In this latest instalment you’ll also be able to control your chosen hero to a certain extent, by deciding what weapons he should carry or what skills he should cast. This means that you’ll have to keep a close eye on the action and make the right choices at those crucial times to ensure victory.

The combat controls and interface for using these skills is extremely important in Guild War’s Nightfall as most quests will involve some sort of fighting scenario. Thankfully it works smoothly, the characters react to your commands accurately and the interface is easy to navigate, even if you’re new to this type of game.

Once you reach a stage in the game when you choose a secondary profession you’ll unlock new skills that are relevant to the job. For example, we choose Necromancer as our second job and unlocked the ‘Well of Blood’ skill which allows you to turn a dead enemy into a well of blood that will regenerate your health when standing in close proximity to it. You’ll also reach a point where you’ll take part in further combat training which opens up the possibility of commanding your troops by position flags on the map. We used this option frequently and it was extremely useful for sending our hero out to draw the enemy into a trap or for flanking an opponent and taking them by surprise.

Fighting isn’t just restricted to NPC’s, you are also able to create guilds, get your friends to join, and take on other guilds in a battle for pride and selfish gain. Unfortunately we couldn’t test this out due to the fact that there were only around 20 people in our game and they were all busy on quests - how selfish.
