Meaty melee
I took a first look at Condemned 2: Bloodshot at the Games Convention in Leipsig and it was clear to see that Monolith Productions has really turned up the fear factor for the second game in the series by creating a darker, more psychologically disturbing first-person action thriller. In our first look we saw how the fighting system has been given a complete overhaul, making melee combat feel more realistic and intense. 'The animations of the enemies as they lunge at you wildly or they suffer a firm whack from your own attacks have been improved greatly. They'll stumble backwards if you hit them in the stomach, clutching their chest in agony, drop to one knee when you smack a piece of lead-piping across their shoulder or go hurtling backwards if you smack them full-on on the chin with a spade.'
It will be interesting to see how the multiplayer side of things will work, which promises to deliver the most brutal hand-to-hand combat experience the first person genre has ever seen.
