The System 'Blade'

The System Blade

This is where higher level stuff is accessed, such as setting up new Profiles and the like. Once the Profile is configured, it is then accessed from the Profiles blade, but here’s where it originates from.

One important point is that here you can set various parental control levels, which will apply globally to all the content on the Xbox 360. You can create user accounts with different levels of access and, if you wish, password lock certain accounts to restrict access to content. Think of Windows XP user accounts and you’ll have the right idea. This means you’ll have your Profile giving you access to the latest FPS ‘Ultimate Gore-fest Lung Eaters 7’ and the classic raunch movie ‘9 ½ Weeks’, whilst your five year ld can only access ‘Barbie goes Shopping’ game and the ‘Carebears love Cuddles’ movie. Microsoft cliam that 99% of DVDs will now supply rating information straight to the console, so you won’t have to lock each individual movie, just set the age limit for each account.

You’ll also be able to control access to other areas of the Xbox 360 software, such as LIVE, and be able to edit friends lists and limit access to downloadable content… handy if little Johnny fancies going off and downloading a load of extras for his game which you’ll end up paying for… And also helpful to stop him Video Messaging ‘5c0uRg3_l33T_k1Ll3R’, who could be a complete weirdo for all you know…
